Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 5, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Citycal LLC ("Citycal", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and retains information when you use Citycal, including our website, event listings, profiles, submission tools, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites, ticketing platforms, venues, organizers, maps, social networks, or other services that we do not control, even if the Service links to them.

2. Information We Collect

Account and profile information. We collect information you provide when you create or update an account, such as username, email address, password credentials, full name, home city, timezone, avatar image, and profile settings. Passwords are stored in hashed form.

Organizer and venue information. If you create an organizer account or claim a venue profile, we may collect organizer name, website URL, Instagram URL, contact name, contact phone number, home city, associated place or venue, verification status, and related profile images.

Event and user content. We collect content you submit or interact with, including event titles, descriptions, dates, times, prices, age requirements, venue/place information, source URLs, images, comments, upvotes, reports, city requests, saved cities, bookmarks, follows, and other activity on the Service.

OAuth and third-party sign-in information. If you sign in with Google or X, we receive information from that provider, such as provider ID, email address, display name, username, and profile information, depending on the provider and your settings.

Technical and usage information. We collect information about how the Service is accessed and used, such as IP address, browser, device, user agent, referral source, pages viewed, interactions, logs, cookies, local storage, and approximate location signals derived from your city selection or technical information.

Public and third-party event information. We may collect event information, venue information, organizer names, public contact information, images, source URLs, and related details from public websites, feeds, third-party event sources, or other publicly available sources. If public event or organizer information about you appears on Citycal and you want it corrected or removed, contact support@citycal.com.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to operate, maintain, personalize, secure, and improve the Service. This includes creating accounts, showing city event feeds, displaying event pages, enabling bookmarks, follows, comments, saved cities, and following feeds, processing event submissions, showing organizer and venue profiles, communicating with you, responding to requests, detecting spam or abuse, enforcing our Terms, debugging errors, measuring usage, and improving search and recommendations.

We may use automated systems, including AI tools, to extract event information from text or URLs, normalize event details, classify events, identify age requirements, detect spam or abuse, assess trustworthiness, and support moderation. Information sent to these tools may include event text, source URLs, source page content, descriptions, venue details, images or image metadata, and moderation context. Our current AI processing uses OpenAI's API. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train or improve OpenAI models by default unless the API customer opts in, and that API abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days unless longer retention is legally required.

If privacy laws require a legal basis for processing, our legal bases may include performing our agreement with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Service, your consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations.

4. Public Information

Citycal is designed to publish and organize event information. Some information may be visible to other users or the public, including event listings, event images, event source links, city pages, venue pages, organizer profiles, usernames, profile photos, public attribution, comments, upvotes or counts, follower information where shown, and bookmark or "interested" information where shown.

Do not submit personal, private, confidential, or sensitive information in event descriptions, comments, profile fields, images, or other public areas unless you want it to be visible and used as part of the Service.

5. How We Disclose Information

We disclose information as needed to operate the Service and for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. This may include disclosure to hosting, database, search, CDN, image storage, email, analytics, authentication, maps/place data, security, error logging, scraping/proxy, and AI service providers, including providers such as OpenAI, Google, X, SendGrid, Cloudflare, and Elasticsearch.

We may disclose information to third-party sign-in providers when you use OAuth, to map and place providers when you search or select places, to email providers when we send account or service emails, and to analytics providers when you use the Service.

We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or governmental request; to protect the rights, safety, and security of Citycal, users, or others; to investigate fraud, spam, abuse, or security issues; in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets; or with your direction or consent.

We do not sell personal information for money. Some analytics or online identifiers may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" under certain privacy laws; where those laws apply, we will provide any required notices and choices.

6. Cookies, Local Storage, and Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, secure the Service, understand usage, and improve the product. We may also use browser local storage for interface preferences.

We use Google Analytics, which may collect information about your browser, device, pages visited, and interactions with the Service. Where analytics consent is required, we ask before loading Google Analytics. Google describes how Google Analytics collects and processes data at google.com/policies/privacy/partners.

You can usually control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may cause parts of the Service, including account login, to stop working correctly.

7. Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain records, operate event listings, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, comply with legal obligations, prevent spam or abuse, and maintain backups. Some public event information may remain available after an account is closed if it is needed to preserve event listings, public records, moderation history, or the integrity of the Service.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No website, database, transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so you use the Service at your own risk.

9. Your Choices and Rights

You may update certain account and profile information in your settings. You may also contact us at support@citycal.com to request access, correction, deletion, or other action regarding your personal information. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights, such as rights to know, access, correct, delete, restrict, object, portability, withdraw consent, or appeal a decision. We will respond to applicable rights requests as required by law.

Transactional emails, such as account, security, confirmation, password reset, moderation, and service notices, are part of the Service. If we send marketing emails, you may opt out as described in those emails.

10. California Notice

If California privacy law applies to your use of the Service, the categories of personal information we may collect include identifiers and contact information, account and profile information, organizer and venue information, user content and activity, internet or device information, approximate location information, commercial or transactional information related to events, and inferences used for moderation, classification, security, or product improvement. We use these categories for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, retain them as described above, and disclose them to the categories of service providers and third parties described above.

We do not sell personal information for money. If analytics identifiers or similar online activity information are considered a "sale" or "sharing" under applicable law, you can opt out by declining analytics in our cookie notice or by contacting support@citycal.com.

11. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact support@citycal.com and we will take appropriate steps.

12. International Users

Citycal is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed and stored in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have data protection laws different from the laws where you live.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and may provide additional notice where appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after an update means the revised policy applies going forward.

14. Contact Us

If you have questions, requests, complaints, or concerns about this Privacy Policy or your personal information, contact us at support@citycal.com.
